The golden days of autumn will soon be here, and I’m already enjoying the cooler weather here in Oregon. School has started, the days are getting shorter, and the garden is exploding with vegetables. This year we planted tromboncino zucchini, and the musician in me really loves the name of this squash!
Some fun things to share with you this month…
Award-winning new score Summer Solstice
My brand new piece Summer Solstice is a winner in the EcoVoice Project “Cry of the Earth Call for Scores” at Loyola University and a finalist in the 48th Festival of New American Music Call for Scores at Sacramento State!
Summer Solstice is not available for sale yet. If you’d like to preview the score, check out this Patreon post. I love to share things early with patrons!
I’m also thrilled to announce that the West Salem High School choir will perform Summer Solstice at the NW ACDA Conference in March 2026!
Interested in a commission consortium opportunity? I’d like to build one to fund the finishing of a large scale choral work about all the Solstices and Equinoxes! Write me back if you’d like to learn more about it.
Just FYI, a commission consortium is a group of multiple choirs who pool financial resources to fund the creation of a new work. This model makes it more affordable for everyone involved to commission a new work than if they were to do so alone. In return for their financial contribution, consortium members receive rights to be among the first to perform the new work and have their names listed in the score.
My new essay published by Oregon Arts Watch
I wrote this little essay recently about my friendship with composer Morten Lauridsen, mostly for my own memories and sharing with friends. Turns out Oregon Arts Watch likes stories written by creatives about other creatives. I’m thrilled and so grateful to share this piece!
