Join the Solstices & Equinoxes Commission Consortium
Be part of the completion of Naomi’s large-scale SATB choral work celebrating the Solstices and Equinoxes!
The Registration Deadline for the Commission Consortium is Sept 1, 2026.
A commission consortium brings together multiple choirs to pool financial resources and fund the creation of a new composition. This collaborative model makes it more affordable for everyone involved to commission a new work than if a single ensemble were to do so alone. Consortium members receive early performance rights to the new work and recognition by name in the published score
About Solstices & Equinoxes
Solstices & Equinoxes (working title) is a four-movement 20-25 minute SATB/piano choral work that traces the natural and spiritual cycles of the seasons through themes of light, darkness, nature, and renewal. The work begins with Fall Equinox, a celebration of gratitude and reciprocity; moves into Winter Solstice, a contemplative turning inward marked by a ritual of releasing sorrow and darkness into fire and preparing for rest; emerges in Spring Equinox as a joyful expression of hope, expectation, and new life; and culminates with Summer Solstice, a radiant welcoming of the fullness of light into our lives.
Each movement weaves together imagery of trees, nature, community, and healing, creating a sense of interconnectedness between people and the earth. The movements may be performed individually or as a complete cycle. All are accompanied by piano, except for the a cappella Winter Solstice.
Cost: $500-$1,025 USD (tiered pricing)
The tiered pricing structure is based on your chorus' budget size and is designed to lower barriers to access for less-resourced and emerging choruses. The pricing is as follows:
$1,025 for choruses with budgets of $1M or higher
$850 for choruses with budgets from $500k - < $1M
$675 for choruses with budgets from $87,500 - < $500k
$500 for choruses with budgets less than $87,500
Cost should not be a barrier to participation for interested choruses! Please contact Naomi to discuss options if the suggested prices prohibit your organization's ability to participate in bringing these new pieces to life.

SUMMER SOLSTICE - LYRICS
The day begins at 4:45 A.M. 4:45!
With gentle rays streaming through the trees.
May we awaken, our eyes open, to the light.
This is not a day for remembering, lay your sadness aside.
This is not a day for looking ahead, let the darkness return in time.
To everything there is a season, and today is for light. Now is for light. Right now.
Let us go to the trees, feel the energy.
We' ll go to the trees, feel the energy.
Reflecting the light, the trees seem to glow with energy.
The Earth, ever revolving, invites us to join them:
Turn to the light.
This day is a gift.
Savor the sunshine.
Summer Solstice.
WINTER SOLSTICE - LYRICS
Snow and shadow surround us
Earth is cold and still
Guided only by starlight
Days overtaken swiftly by darkness
The trees sleep and the moon hides
This Winter Solstice we take the time
To look inside our shadows
We’re not afraid of our darkness
We’re not afraid of the hidden places in our hearts
Tears fall as we remember
We write it down, we hold it close
And then we let it burn
Watch it turn to light in the fire
Release into the night
As it dies with the Earth we are reborn
We become barren to return to life
Rest now, and the Earth rests with you
