Hike 18: Cape Meares National Wildlife Refuge (Tillamook County, OR)

Amazing to stand next to the oldest Sitka Spruce in Oregon… it’s 750 years old! More lovely ocean, red huckleberries, a cool old lighthouse, and peaceful old-growth forest. Super interesting “Octopus Tree” - the forces that shaped it have been debated for many years. Whether natural events or Native Americas were the cause remains a mystery. And my new favorite wild berry? The thimbleberry. It’s perfectly sweet and tart. Better than any candy. Thanks again to my sister Jessica for joining me!
